What Boat Payment Calculator is
Boat Payment Calculator is a set of calculators and plain-English guides for people who are thinking about financing a boat. The site is built around a simple sequence: calculate a payment, compare scenarios, understand the total cost, and then decide what comes next.
A few things are true of every tool on the site:
- Calculations run in your browser. The numbers you enter are not stored by us or sent to our servers.
- Every result is an estimate for informational purposes. It is not a financing offer, approval, commitment or guarantee.
- The site does not collect loan applications and does not make credit decisions. Financing applications are completed through Vantage Recreational Finance.
What we cover
This site covers boats only. You will find tools and guides for:
- Payments and affordability: the Boat Payment Calculator, the Boat Affordability Calculator and the other tools in the calculator hub.
- Financing concepts: down payments, loan terms, APR and what lenders typically review, collected in the financing hub.
- Buying a boat: new and used purchases, dealers and private sellers, and a buyer checklist, collected in the buying hub.
- Definitions: a glossary of terms you will meet in quotes and paperwork.
We do not cover other recreational vehicles, auto loans or general consumer credit on this site.
Editorial principles
Financing decisions involve real money, so we hold the content to a few rules.
We show estimates, not promises
Actual rates, terms, payments, requirements, program availability and approval may vary by lender, borrower and boat. We describe how financing typically works and use words like "may" and "estimated" where the outcome depends on factors we cannot see.
We do not rank or declare winners
We do not make claims about rates or payments being better than anyone else's, and we do not tell you which loan term or which boat is right for you. A longer term and a shorter term each have trade-offs; a new boat and a used boat each have trade-offs. Our job is to make those trade-offs visible so you can weigh them.
We show how examples are calculated
Payment estimates use the standard amortization formula for a fixed-rate loan:
Monthly payment = P × r ÷ (1 − (1 + r)−n)
where P is the amount financed, r is the APR divided by 12, and n is the number of monthly payments. Example figures are rounded to whole dollars. For instance, $50,000 financed at 8.00% APR for 15 years (180 payments) gives an estimated payment of about $478 and about $36,009 in total interest. You can see the full method on the Boat Payment Calculator page.
We label example numbers as examples
Rates used in examples, such as 8.00% APR, are illustrative and are not quotes. When we refer to a market figure, we name the source and the date it was reported.
We keep pages focused
Each page is meant to answer one question, link to the calculator that lets you test the answer, and point to related pages. Tax and legal topics are explained in general terms only; for advice about your situation, consult a qualified tax or legal professional.
Our relationship with Vantage Recreational Finance
Boat Payment Calculator educates and calculates. When you choose Start Application, you leave this site and continue to the official financing application through Vantage Recreational Finance. The application, any credit decision and any loan terms are handled by Vantage, under its own terms and privacy policy.
Disclosure: the Start Application links include a referral identifier, and Boat Payment Calculator may receive compensation from Vantage when you apply through them. That relationship does not change how our calculators work or what our guides say.
Vantage is a recreational lender. Vantage lists memberships in the National Marine Lenders Association and the Marine Retailers Association of the Americas on its website. Information you enter in our calculators is not passed to Vantage; if you apply, you provide your information directly in Vantage's application.
Our editorial principles apply regardless of this relationship: the calculators use the same formula for every scenario, and the guides describe how boat financing typically works across lenders.
